Roster breakdown

UConn's roster is built almost entirely through the portal — 64 transfers making up 67% of classifiable players, skewing heavily G5 (33) over P4 (24), which tracks with their 3.1-star average against Maryland's 3.18 and a blue-chip rate of 12% versus our 16%. That portal dependency has produced a younger, thinner roster than ours: 1.49 years of average experience to our 1.79, upperclassmen at just 29% versus our 40%, meaning the 47 redshirts are doing a lot of the developmental work. The continuity picture on offense is essentially nonexistent — 4% receiving production back, 0% rushing, 3% passing — so whoever they've assembled this cycle is largely untested in their system, and the OL averaging 301 lbs against our 311 suggests a size disadvantage up front that compounds the inexperience. On the DMV angle, they're holding 7 kids from our backyard — Abshire, Hicks, Bridges-Brooks, Johnson, Walker, Wilkins among them — though with only 10% of seniors/grad-transfers departing after this season, the cliff heading into 2026 is shallow enough that roster churn will likely continue to define how they're built.
