Roster breakdown

Virginia Tech's roster leans heavily on the transfer portal, with 41 transfers making up 37% of classifiable players — nearly 1.5x Maryland's 25% rate — and 27 of those coming from P4 programs, which helps explain why their blue-chip rate (29%, 3.27★) clears Maryland's (16%, 3.18★) by a meaningful margin despite the portal-heavy build. They're marginally more experienced than us at 1.9 years vs. 1.79, but only 35% upperclassmen against our 40%, and 81 redshirts in the program suggests a lot of roster management still in play. The offensive continuity picture is rough heading into 2025 — 0% of pass production and only 36% of rush production returning — though the OL is built heavier at 324 lbs average (we're at 311 lbs), so the line itself isn't the concern so much as the skill layer around it. On the DMV front, they're pulling 8 players from Maryland by home state and have at least six identifiable DMV-hometown guys on the roster including Heath, Clarke, and Adams, so there's real pipeline competition there even before the 18% SR/GR cliff that hits them after this season.
